Home business, home education and health challenges: what makes us tic?

First day of school

All over Facebook, friends and family have posted adorable pictures and endearing anecdotes of their kids on their  first day of school. They look so cute in their little uniforms – and so big! It’s astonishing when I look at my own babies and really, that’s what I see: babies.

Small, young, innocent. Hopefully for some time to come.

Today we started school, and it was awesome. No uniforms, no fights with hairbrushes. No rush. We just ambled our way through 6¼ hours of school, covering reading, writing, arithmetic, and a rather detailed study of the workings of the ear. The girls drew rather recognisable drawings of an ear, and labelled them thoroughly.

6¼ hours is rather more than I’d hoped to spend on school each day, but it was well worth it. The girls are now settling down to an afternoon of Narnia, while I try to get to work and NOT spend the afternoon drawing Princesses and similar fun.
